Axsys Air offers the following classes. Please check out the class schedule for availability, dates and times. Also, feel free to contact us directly for one-on-one instruction opportunities.

• BUILDING BASICS, FROM READING PLANS TO BUCKING THAT FIRST RIVET


This intensive, 16 hour weekend primer is designed to get you through all of the basics, from reading the plans to completing a small wing project, by the time you leave, you will be well aware of what it takes to complete your RV project. For those of you that haven’t selected your RV, this is a perfect course for you as well, as we will spend some time looking at the different types of RV’s in the air today.

What you will walk away with –

  • RV Plans orientation
  • RV "Family of Airplanes" orientation
  • Aircraft hardware orientation
  • Basic sheet metal skills (including cutting, riveting, bending)
  • Tool orientation and selection advice
  • Workspace orientation
  • FAA builders and log requirements
  • Completed "mini-wing" project


Classes are from 8 am to 5 pm and include lunch.
All tools will be provided.
Student to instructor ratio is 5:1 so class size is limited.

Fee: $295 per person, or $495 per couple (or significant others)


• BUILDING BASICS, FIBERGLASS AND YOUR RV


  • "Fiberglass, but I thought the RV was a metal airplane?" While that statement is mostly true, there is a fair amount of fiberglass on every RV. If you haven’t had experience with fiberglass, it can be frustrating, time consuming and costly.

    This is another intensive, 16 hour weekend primer. It’s designed to get you through all of the basics of fiber glassing, from laying it up to getting a fairing ready for finish paint. We will talk about what to buy and where. We also have several tricks of the trade that will save time (heavy on the time), frustration and money. By the end of the weekend, you will be ready to finish your project with confidence.

    • Tools and hardware, selection and advice
    • Tricks of the trade
    • The skills to complete the fiberglass on your RV

    Classes are from 8 am to 5 pm and include lunch.
    All tools will be provided.

• BUILDING THE EMPENNAGE (RV-7 THROUGH RV-9 & RV-12)


When you’ve selected your RV, if you are lucky enough to visit them in person, the first two questions that the good people at Van’s Aircraft are going to ask you are, "Are you going to take that tail kit with you or do you want us to ship it somewhere?"* And it will sink in … you are on your way!

This class is five, very full days in length and stretches over an entire week.** In that time, you can build your tail kit from start to finish, absent a fairing or two and some fiberglass work. Although we will have professional assistance readily available, we encourage you to convince a family member or a friend to come along and help you out with your tail kit. There is NO additional fee for your helper!


What you can walk away with –

  • A completed tail kit for your RV-6 though RV-9
  • Photo CD for your builders log
  • The confidence to build the rest of your RV!

BUILDING THE EMPENNAGE & THE TAIL CONE! (RV-10)


You’ve selected you’re the RV-10, Van’s big 4-place. A great choice.
All of the information in the section relating the RV-6 through RV-9 assembly class goes here, so don’t neglect to read through that section (above) other than that the RV-10 empennage class is stretches over eight very full days.** In that time, you will quick build the majority of the tail kit.

What you will walk away with –

  • A majority completed tail kit for your RV-10
  • Photo CD for your builders log
  • The confidence to build the rest of your RV!

Classes are from 8 am to 5 pm.
All tools will be provided.
Student to instructor ratio is reduced to 4:1, so class size is very limited.
And remember, one assistant is free, so bring them along!

• BUILDING THE WINGS, THE RV-12 LIGHT SPORT


This class is held over is three, 10 hour days giving you 30 hours of instruction!** In that time, you will quick build at least one wing, and get the other well on its way. Your wing will be ready to fly when you walk out the door.

What you will walk away with –

  • A completed wing for your RV-12
  • Photo CD for your builders log
  • The confidence to build the rest of your RV!

Classes are from 8 am to 6 pm.
All tools will be provided.
Student to instructor ratio is reduced to 4:1, so class size is very limited.
And remember, one assistant is free, so bring them along!

* For a reasonable fee, you can have your wing kit shipped directly to us. We will make all of the arrangements for you and store it for up to two months. Let us know if this will work for you and will determine the costs.

** To attend this class, you must have completed the BUILDING BASICS, FROM READING PLANS TO BUCKING THAT FIRST RIVET Class.
